One of our top priorities is ensuring that the UK has healthy maths degree provision at all tariff-levels and across the country. This must be a crucial part of any strategy to improve economic growth and productivity, or to strengthen the maths teacher workforce.

However following several or closures at university maths departments in recent years, we continue to see a series of series of university-wide announcements on voluntary redundancy processes, potentially affecting mathematics.

Therefore, at the beginning of last year, CaMS launched our Provision Tracker, through which we proactively monitor the health of university maths departments. We do this by collating public data on provision, including though official university communications and other public content, such as news articles and research reports.

We want to work with university maths departments to prevent further downsizing or closures and will support colleagues in the maths community wherever possible.
