WITHDRAWAL OF NATIONAL ACADEMY FUNDING – IN THE MEDIA

Professor Jens Marklof recently responded to the Government’s decision to cancel funding to establish the new National Academy for Mathematical Sciences. You can read the full response here.

Our response has already been picked up by a number of media outlets. Times Higher Education carried our response in full and noted that “Ministers had previously identified the need for an organisation – to be known as the National Academy of Mathematical Sciences – to help support plans to upskill the country’s workforce and grow the economy.”

Meanwhile, The Telegraph reported that rather than setting up the academy, it would work with the sector to develop Skills England, a new body which was announced by the Prime Minister in July.

Our response also featured on page 2 of Friday’s edition of The Times, with Science Editor Tom Whipple also noting academics have already warned that ‘maths deserts’ were forming at British universities because of cuts which further threatens the maths pipeline.
