Access to university study must be open for record A-level maths cohort – in the media

CaMS supporter Neil Saunders has written for The Conversation on A-Levels results day, where figures show that maths remains the most popular subject at 112,138 entries. This represents a 4% rise on the previous year, and a larger cohort of A-level maths students than ever before.


As Neil explains, maths deserts (areas where university maths degrees are not offered) are becoming increasingly common, impacting upon accessibility of maths degrees right at a time when maths is growing ever popular in schools.


With the demand for AI developers able to innovate in the field expected to only grow, Neil writes that maths is an attractive and valuable degree path that we should be encouraging young people to embark on.
