Supercomputer funding confirmed

The Chancellor has confirmed £750 million in funding for a new supercomputer in Edinburgh.

Since last year, we have led calls for this vital project to be reinstated and we’re glad that the government has listened.

This investment in our supercomputer infrastructure will support mathematical sciences research and help the UK exploit our AI expertise.

This funding – combined with the £1 billion announced for AI compute power earlier this week – will strengthen our world-leading AI ecosystem and bolster our cutting-edge research output. But there can be no AI without the maths that underpins it and we’d urge the government to go further and adopt our five point Plan for Maths.
